Who we are

Cooper Hitchcock is the owner and craftsman behind Coeur du Bois Woodsmith. Cooper has always enjoyed working with his hands, as he grew up helping his father with his construction business. Cooper followed in his father’s footsteps and become a General Contractor and Architectural Designer himself. While he enjoys working in the residential construction field, his passion has always been woodworking and he dreamed of owning a custom furniture shop someday. With some encouragement from his wife, Emma, he started Coeur du Bois Woodsmith to begin pursuing this dream.

Cooper and Emma reside in North Idaho with their son and budding homestead of animals (dogs, chickens, barn cats, horses, & a steer). When not in his woodshop or doing chores around the homestead, Cooper can often be found hunting, fishing, or savoring an americano.

The name ‘Coeur du Bois’ means ‘heartwood’ in French. The heartwood is the strongest and most dense wood at the center of a tree. It provides the structural support for the tree and is more resistant to disease & decay than the outer wood. We thought this was a fitting name as it gives a nod to our town, Coeur d’Alene, and reflects the quality, heart, & care that Cooper will put into all the pieces he crafts.
